Know what each fitting does

A clean takeoff starts by separating the cable, its adjustable ends, and the fixed termination options.

Level fitting A swageless tensioning fitting used at the end of a horizontal cable run.
Stair fitting An articulating swageless tensioning fitting that pivots to match a stair or ramp angle.
Simple Stop A fixed swageless anchor used opposite one level tensioner in the Standard metal-post arrangement.
Dual-Adjust A level fitting at both ends of a metal-post cable run, providing adjustment from either end.
Cable strand One pre-cut length of 1/8-inch, 1x19 construction, 316 stainless steel cable supplied with each run kit.

Count cable railing kits without losing a corner

The quantity formula is simple once the layout is divided correctly: cable rows multiplied by independent railing sections.

Mark termination points

Identify every end post, corner, wall connection, and level-to-stair transition on the plan.

Count sections

Each uninterrupted termination-to-termination railing section is counted once. Count opposite stair sides separately.

Confirm cable rows

Our kits typically use 10-11 rows for a 36-inch rail and 12-13 rows for a 42-inch rail. Use the approved project layout.

Multiply rows by sections

Eleven rows across three independent sections creates a planning quantity of 33 run kits and 33 cable strands.

Important: The selector estimates kit counts, not cable lengths. Measure every section separately and choose a cable length that matches the product instructions and installed field conditions.

Attachment option

Wood and metal kits use different attachment hardware. Metal stair kits also provide screw options for specific post conditions, while wood stair kits provide lag options for posts or framed wall attachment.

Cable length

Match the selected pre-cut strand length to each measured section. Do not use one total perimeter measurement for corners, stairs, or separate railing sections.

What hardware do I need for cable railing?

Start with a run kit matched to the section type and termination post material: level or stair, then wood or metal. Each kit supplies the fittings and one cable strand for one cable row. Separate accessories and post components depend on the complete project design.

How many cable railing kits do I need?

Multiply the number of cable rows by the number of independent termination-to-termination railing sections. For example, 11 rows across three sections produces a planning quantity of 33 kits.

Does a cable railing corner start a new section?

Yes. Our run-kit product pages define a cable run as one row of cable and state that a run terminates at a corner or end post. Count a new set of rows for the next section.

What is the difference between Standard and Dual-Adjust?

For the Level Run Kit for Metal Posts, Standard includes one level fitting assembly and one Simple Stop assembly. Dual-Adjust includes two level fitting assemblies, placing an adjustable tensioner at both ends.

Can I use level fittings on stairs?

Use the stair run kit for a sloped section. Its articulating stair fittings pivot to align with the stair or ramp pitch. Level fittings are intended for horizontal runs.

Are cable lengths included in this quantity?

Each run kit includes one pre-cut cable strand, but the selector does not choose its length. Measure each section and confirm the available length and installation instructions on the matching product page.
